All my life, I read about true love and fairytales, and… Tia, you found it! I’ll kiss him! For you, honey! No marriage required. FAVORITE FEMALE PLATONIC RELATIONSHIP: TIANA AND CHARLOTTE LA BOUFF FROM THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG. Fans have written at length about this friendship and why it’s so great, and I was actually going to link some of that, but my tumblr tags for this film somehow got screwed up and now I can’t find… a bunch of the material I’ve posted. Anyway though, Lottie and Tiana! This is a fantastic friendship. It’s unconventional and it spurns cliches. There are so many traps that Disney could have fallen into with these two, because what they had was kind of delicate and really, really easy to do so badly. Charlotte is a rich white heiress and Tiana is a lower class black waitress. In the 1920s. But Princess and the Frog never goes all The Help with these two. Tiana remains the hero of her own story, and Lottie just helps her out from time to time. Lottie IS spoiled, and yes she can even be a bit self-centered, but she loves Tiana so dearly and so intensely that she always stands by her and is always willing to put her dreams on hold for her. She might want to dance with a prince (and marry one later on), but what Tiana wants and needs always precedes that. Lottie is never condescending in any way toward Tiana. She treats her as a true equal. As for Tiana, she and Lottie could not be more different, but she loves her like she would a sister. She’s supportive of Lottie’s dreams, no matter how unrealistic they may seem to someone as practical as her. And she probably knows that Lottie would just fork over the money for her restaurant if she asked, which I’m sure means a lot to her, but she wants to make it of her own accord. Anyway, basically these two are awesome.
